Salad manufacturers have not prospered in eliminating E. coli and other unsafe microorganisms from fresh greens, though they've attempted hard. As we've reported previously, it's a major obstacle to both breeders and the environment. However one scientist thinks he's acting -- with a spinach spa that zaps bad bugs with ultrasound. Ultrasound is nothing even more than sound relocating at a regularity expensive for people to hear.

NEW YORK-- Small business owners expanded more pessimistic in November after the presidential election and Superstorm Sandy, according to a survey launched Tuesday. The National Federation of Independent Business said its index of small-business optimism dropped 5. 6 points last month to 87.5. The index was compiled from a survey of 733 NFIB members taken throughout November. NFIB Chief Economist William Dunkelberg said the biggest drag on the index was owners' expectation that business conditions will be worse six months from now. The number of owners anticipating better times ahead fell 37 points. Almost half the owners reviewed are now pessimistic about the future. Almost a quarter of the owners said bad sales were their biggest problem. Dunkelberg said owners in the states struck by Sandy were a little more pessimistic than in the rest of the nation.

NEW YORK (CNNMoney) -- Power plants and other utility infrastructure throughout the Mid-Atlantic region are on high alert Monday afternoon as Hurricane Sandy moves closer to shore.
